I’m not going to do a full blog post on the new 31 point talent trees, specialization bonuses or abilities right now. The likelihood of changes to the new threes makes comments moot. I’m not in beta. I don’t have a contact at Blizzard. I’m actually quite sure that anything I say about this will affect the final outcome, so I’ll wait for a time where there is more certainty about the final layout.

Just a few weeks after releasing the preview of the talent trees Blizzard drops a bombshell of a blue post. The class and mastery system for Cataclysm will get a serious overhaul. Classes will be tied down to one talent tree for most of their levelling. The amount of talents will be significantly reduced along with the amount of talent points awarded, which will be one every other level from level 10 to 70. How will this major revamp affect us?

Yesterday was supposed to be Kingslayer day for our guilds 10 man raid team. Because of the 3.3.5 patch and extended downtime we decided to postpone the long awaited encounter. Instead we ended up in the Ruby Sanctum as so many other players. The first impression was good, and it only got better the further we got. If Ruby Sanctum is a sign of what is to come in Cataclysm, the expansion cannot come soon enough.

With the reveal of the priest talent trees the one thing that springs off the page is the first five tiers in the Discipline tree. When Cataclysm rolls around with more levels and talent points, every raid spec will be able to get both the 51 point talent of their Holy or Shadow tree and go all the way down to the 5th tier in the Discipline tree. Why is this interesting? Because of the major changes made to the first five tiers in Discipline that will be available to every spec.

Major news on Cataclysm came out over the weekend and as I was busy in-game and watching the soccer World Cup it actually escaped me until I checked the blog feed this morning. Blizzard will not be implementing Path of The Titans or Guild Talents. Ever. That’s two strikes for Blizzard. Let’s hope they don’t get a third.
